...SCULPTED FROM THE EARTH AND PAINTED WITH FLAMES...

Ayesha Weekes is a London based visual artist and facilitator with more than 20 years experience working with children, young people and families.

Ayesha Graduated with a degree in education and art for community and public spaces. She  specialises in ceramics and an established contemporary art practice, inspired by the adornment of the human form and African and tribal cultures,  her work is  a reflection of her culture and heritage, exploring identity .

Ayesha is fascinated by traditional methods particularly burnishing and pit firing, the original methods for turning  clay into ceramic. It dates back more than 30,000 years.

Ayesha aims to explore these to create works that like humans may be uniform in form but completely unique.

After having children Ayesha's art practice became her therapy and became a more significant value in her life when both her daughters were diagnosed with autism.

Ayesha focuses on the therapeutic value of art, viewing it as a window to the soul and an escape form the noise of the world for herself and her autistic daughters.

Through her art practice and facilitating Ayesha wishes to utilise the visual arts as a form of communication and a vehicle to support and inspire for those with communication difficulties, the vulnerable and at-risk.
